Financial Issues

Financial survival at University may involve using a range of resources including parental/partner support, YouthAllowance/ABSTUDY/AUSTUDY, part time and vacation work.

Advice and referral for financial problems is available from Student Care's Education and Welfare Officers (EWOs), as well as the Wilto Yerlo Support Officers for indigenous students and International Student Advisers for international students

The University of Adelaide (UA) and the Adelaide University Union have a small number of grants, scholarships and loans, which can supplement income or help with budgeting.

Information about scholarships and grants can be found on the University's Scholarships Office web-site.

Financial support schemes administered from the Student Care Office include:

Equal Access Grant Scheme - needs-based small grants for commencing undergraduates
Walter and Dorothy Duncan Trust - grants assessed on need and academic merit - for undergraduate and post-graduate students (not normally for visiting international students)
Susanne Collins Angas Memorial Fund - undergraduates (not first years) from Barossa Valley area - needs-based
Emergency Loan Scheme - small short-term loans for crisis need - for undergraduates and post-graduates
The Student Loans Scheme helps students to budget for study and related living costs. Loans up to $500 (unsecured) and up to $2000 (with guarantor) are available interest free but subject to conditions and individual assessment. International students must apply through the International Students Office.
AR Riddle Scholarship - honours year students: financial need based. Applications advertised March - April, close early May

Students with problems regarding CENTRELINK payments (Youth Allowance, ABSTUDY, AUSTUDY, Pensioner Education Supplement), and related conditions and decisions should speak to the Education and Welfare Officers.

Queries regarding HECS/HECS-HELP should be directed in the first instance to the University's Student Centre or to Student Finance.
